I’ve reached the young age of 51 and I’m married (to Hilary) and have 3 fantastic children (Andrew, Christopher and Laura).
When I was approaching my 50th birthday it was suggested by Anthony McGloin that I should create a list of goals I wanted to achieve. So I set out writing down 100 things I wanted to do in my next 50 years of life. The process of writing down my goals was actually exciting and even got the whole family involved with them giving me lots of suggestions. Two goals from my list were to climb to Everest Base Camp and to work with a charity raising significant amounts of money.
The climb up Kilimanjaro doesn’t take as long as climbing to Everest Base Camp but Kilimanjaro is higher (19,341 feet) than Everest Base Camp (17,519 feet). Also, to have the opportunity of raising money for Sparks makes the challenge even more exciting.
I’m fortunate to run Bluegrass Computer Services whose vision it is to provide problem free computing to all businesses. We offer a range of services to our clients in order that they can concentrate on making their businesses successful rather than having to worry about their computers.
When I was young I suffered from severe Asthma and as a consequence missed a great deal of school. The consultant who was treating me once made the comment to my parents that the severity of my Asthma would restrict exercise and sports. Fortunately through the commitment of my parents I overcame my Asthma during my mid teens and enjoyed a fun time playing football and rugby. Here I am now about to embark on the biggest physical challenge of my life – climbing 19,340 feet up Kilimanjaro. Not bad for a kid who was told he’d not be able to do too much physical exercise!
